Nationwide MNP to start from July 3rd

Nationwide MNP (Mobile number portability) will be rolled out by mobile service providers on July 3rd, Friday. MNP is a service which allows users to retain their number when they change service provider. The MNP service is already working if the user switches in a same circle or in his state. But now users will have MNP service available even after they change their state or circle.
The MNP was planned for May 3rd earlier. There was a 2 months delay because Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) demanded some extension from Dot. Their concern was about the technical change required for this change.
Some telecom operators are prepared for it as stated by India’s largest telecom provider Bharti Airtel.”With our complete readiness to launch national mobile number portability, we aim to empower customers enabling them to retain this identity as they move across anywhere in the country.” Other players are also expected to do the same in coming time.
