Flipkart to go app only, no desktop website from September
India’s largest online retailer Flipkart has decided to move app only from September. Punit Soni, company’s chief product officer informed the employees in a meeting last week. When asked regarding the same Flipkart admitted to the fact. The users will have to install Flipkart’s mobile app in order to purchase September onwards. This will leave no option for desktop users but to use mobile for payments.
Flipkart’s 70% traffic is already coming through the mobile app. So with a rapidly increasing number of mobile users this is a step for the future. Earlier this year Myntra, which Flipkart acquired last year also went app only. 90% of Myntra’s traffic and 70% sale were driven through app prior to shifting. After shifting Myntra reported a 10% drop in sales but expected it to rise eventually.
